We review the possibility to use the renormalons emerging in the perturbation series of the twist-2 part of the nonsinglet structure functions F L , F 2 , F 3 , and g 1 to make approximate predictions for the magnitude of the appertaining twist-4 corrections.

The Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn integral I GDH (Q 2), and its relation to polarized nu-cleon structure functions, is discussed from the lattice perspective. Of particular interest is the variation of I GDH (Q 2) with Q 2 , and what it may teach us about the origin and magnitude of higher-twist contributions.

The contribution of the quark-quark and quark-gluon interaction induced by instantons to the valence quark and proton spin-dependent structure functions g 1 (x, Q 2) is estimated within the instanton liquid model for QCD vacuum. It is shown, that this interaction leads to a rather large violation of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule.
